This compilation, volume two of Capitol Records’ new “From the Vaults” series, features 25 tracks by female vocalists from the earliest years of the Capitol label, 1944-1950. Peggy’s recording of “Everybody Loves Somebody” (a song later popularized by Dean Martin) makes its CD debut. Other Capitol songbirds on the disc include Jo Stafford, Margaret Whiting, Kay Starr, Anita O’Day, June Christy, Betty Hutton, Ella Mae Morse, Helen O’Connell, Martha Tilton and Nellie Lutcher. Volume three in this series, entitled Capitol Jumps, includes Peggy’s often reissued recording of “Don’t Smoke in Bed.”
