Release date: November 20, 2012
Peggy was a frequent guest on many of the leading television variety shows of the 1960s, most notably The Ed Sullivan Show, The Dean Martin Show and The Andy Williams Show. She only appeared once, though, on The Danny Kaye Show, which aired on CBS from 1963 to 1967. Peggy’s episode, from December 21, 1966, is paired with a December 25, 1963 episode on Inception Media Group’s Christmas with Danny Kaye. The DVD is available in Region One format only (United States and Canada).
The 1963 episode, in black and white, features guest stars Nat King Cole, who performs Get Me to the Church on Time and his classic hitThe Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), and Mary Tyler Moore, who was then starring in The Dick Van Dyke Show. Nat and Danny join in a good-humored medley called Jingle Bells/Jingle Journey — the same medley that Peggy and Danny perform in their 1966 episode. For her solo segment, Peggy performs her new Capitol single release So What’s New?, which she co-wrote with John Pisano, and Here’s That Rainy Day, which she’d previously sung on her 1961 album If You Go. The 1966 episode with Peggy, in color, also features Wayne Newton.
As a bonus feature, the DVD includes Danny Kaye reciting a passage from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol — an excerpt from Kaye’s Christmas episode of 1965.
Christmas with Danny Kaye is released on the eve of Danny Kaye’s centennial year. For further information about the Kaye centennial visit his official website.
