You Was Right, Baby

(Listen)

This is the second Lee-Barbour composition Peggy recorded, from the same session as the first, “What More Can a Woman Do?”, on December 27, 1944. She sang “You Was Right, Baby” on radio throughout the late 1940s and she filmed it in 1950 for Snader Telescriptions (see “Listen” link above).

The Dinning Sisters recorded “You Was Right, Baby” with Western swing bandleader Spade Cooley in 1945, but Peggy’s recording may have been the only version by a solo vocalist in her lifetime. More recently it has been revived by singers Nicole Kestler, Stacy Sullivan and Laura Theodore.
