The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter was a 1968 drama based on the Carson McCullers novel and starring Alan Arkin and Sondra Locke. Its musical score was by the much-esteemed Dave Grusin, and Peggy contributed lyrics for the title theme. Six years after the film’s release she included the song on her Atlantic Records album Let’s Love. In 1969 the male vocal group The Match recorded the song for RCA Victor Records.
