Peggy also voiced the saucy Pekingese character Peg who sings this vampy homage to the title character Tramp. On the Lady and the Tramp soundtrack recording she’s backed by the Mellomen, a quartet voicing dog howls, growls and whimpers; they also performed it together on television. She recorded a solo version for commercial release on Decca Records February 11, 1955. The song has since been recorded by Connie Evingson, Melody Gardot, Anita Harris, Rebecca Kilgore, Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, Janelle Monae (for the 2019 film remake), Tish Oney, Dianne Reeves, Janet Seidel, Stacy Sullivan, Steve Tyrell and Patti Wicks, among many others.
