(Listen)

Beginning in the early 1950s Peggy co-wrote several songs that were either sung on film soundtracks or adapted from instrumental themes that were heard in films. The first of these was “How Strange” from the Republic film The Bullfighter and the Lady starring Robert Stack, Joy Page and Gilbert Roland. This was the first of Peggy’s songwriting collaborations with composer, arranger and conductor Victor Young. (Peggy recorded several of his songs written with other lyricists, including “A Hundred Years from Today,” “Street of Dreams,” “When I Fall in Love,” “Love Letters,” and “Golden Earrings,” the latter a #2 chart hit for her in 1947.) Peggy recorded “How Strange” under Young’s musical direction on February 13, 1953 for Decca Records.
