(Listen)

Peggy recorded the playful “So What’s New,” written with her longtime guitarist John Pisano, for Capitol Records on September 13, 1966 and included it on her 1967 album Extra Special! The song enjoyed some success in instrumental versions (Herb Alpert, Chet Atkins, Jackie Gleason, Bert Kaempfert, Sergio Mendes, Art Van Damme) but Peggy’s is the only prominent vocal version. It peaked at #20 on Billboard’s adult contemporary chart in October 1966.
